The data privacy attorneys at Morgan & Morgan are investigating a data breach occurring at Prudential Financial Insurance earlier this year. It appears that Prudential downplayed the incident by initially reporting that a mere 36,000 individuals were impacted. Alarmingly, Prudential has now informed regulators that more than 2.5 million people had their personal and confidential information compromised in this breach.

Prudential Financial, a major U.S. insurance firm, suffered an intrusion of its computer network in February 2024. Prudential had previously reported that approximately 36,000 people had information compromised in the breach. Now, 5 months later, Prudential has updated its reporting and has admitted that more than 2,500,000 had personal information impacted. That is an astounding increase and Prudential has not provided any information for the discrepancy. Also concerning is that Prudential has been vague regarding the details of the data taken, but has indicated that it includes names, addresses, and driver’s license numbers.
